He left Auxiliary Units to join HM Forces 12th November 1942.
In 1929 he was an Auctioneer's assistant and apprentice to Hubert Finn-Kelcey, the farm and estate agent. By 1969 he was partner in the Lyminge firm of Finn-Kelcey and Ashenden. He lodged with the Boughtons in Elham. He had a bicycle and one change of clothes, but when he died he was quite wealthy.
