Gilbert Bright had a fish cart, would always carry a gun and was often seen out on the Exminster Marshes. It has been suggested he would often be out poaching.
He joined the Navy aged 16 on 20 Jan 1913 signing on for 12 years. He was 5 foot 6 1/2 inches with fair hair and blue eyes and a fresh complexion. By 1921 he was a leading stoker. He was invalided out in December 1924.
