Born in Bedfordshire, the son of Dr Harold and Ann Husbands. As a widow he married Janie Shattock in 1949. His first wife Gwyneth nee Hawkins died after an operation in 1936.
Dr H Reginald W “Reggie” Husbands FRCS Edin., MRCS Eng., LRCP Lond. was in practice with his brother Roland at Husbands, Husbands & Phelps, Forde House, Upper High Street and North Town House, 3 Staple Grove Road, Taunton. He retired due to ill health in 1961. Drs Reginald and Roland Husbands operated on John Mortimer White in April 1942, the 5 year old son of Auxilier Mort White of Nerrols Farm. Shortly after removing John's tonsils and adenoids he collapsed and died.
Reggie played Rugby for Taunton as a young man and was a keen angler, golfer and swimmer.

He was transferred to 2nd Somerset Battalion Home Guard 15th October 1943.

In 1945 he was granted the honorary rank of Captain, at disbandment of the Home Guard having served 4 years and 18 days.
A WW1 veteran he served in Royal Army Medical Corps as Temporary Lieutenant 9053 from 10 Aug 1915, later Captain 115049 to 1919. He was hospitalised in General Hospital, Salonica, Greece, with Malaria 5 Sept 1916.
