Born to Coachman Charles and Helen (Baikie) on the 19th of March 1895 

In April 1916, a Military Tribunal listed John Baikie Begg, Horseman, Kirk Mains to be refused exemptions, but recommended he was not called up until the 28th of May 1916, It was reported on the 16th of May 1916,  that this was the case and not to be called up before the 15th of June 1916.

Having an Army Medical on the 12th of November 1916 in Wick, he was called up on the 6th of December 1916, at Fort George, John, listed as a Ploughman, joined the Seaforth Highlanders in the Machine Gun Corps, where he served in France as a Private.  He demobbed on the 30th of January 1919.

In 1921, John was listed as staying with his parents at Kirk Mains, with two younger brothers, Charles and George.

John, A Farmer's son  married Catherine Manson on the 24th of June 1921 at Bower, John was listed as staying at Kirk Mains, Bower.

In 1923, George stayed at Kirk, Bower

John passed away on the 23rd of May 1974 at Castleview, Keiss,
