He enlists 30 July 1919 in Royal Tank Corps and was working in Equitation School, Weedon, Northamptonshire where the family are living in Quarters in 1939. He is awarded a Emergency Commission 30 Nov 1939.

Captain Patterson was Quartermaster at Coleshill. His batman was Trooper Jones.

He is mentioned a couple of times in the diary of Beatrice Temple, Auxiliary Units ATS Commander. On 20 Dec 1942 he is present at tea in the ante-room, presumably of Coleshill House. On 19 May 1943 he drops in on her for a chat, perhaps about stores.
