Biography

He was born Owen Byron Hall, but adopted his double barrelled surname by Deed Poll on 25 Jan 1927. He married Jocelyn Violet Margaret Hawdon on 6 Sep 1939. They went on have three children. In 1939 he was living at Nye Wood on Old Lane, Woking with Jocelyn, with his occupation recorded as Grenadier Guards officer, retired.

After the war he retired to Devon, living at Glebe House in Morchard Bishop, Crediton and later at Colleton Cottage, Chulmleigh in Devon. He became involved with the National Trust.

In 1935 he returned from Marseilles. At this time he recorded that he was a retired Army Officer.

18 Nov 1939 Instructor to Corps of Military Police Wing, 

20 Feb 1941 Specially Appointed Auxiliary Units Special Duties Intelligence Office Dorset and Hampshire 1941-1944, 

15 Aug 1944 returned to Regiment. 

2 Sept 1944 Promoted Brevet Major.

Other information

As a Grenadier Guards Officer in the 1930s he was part of the social set and appeared frequently in the press. He played golf in Britain and was a regular visitor to Le Touquet, a popular continental destination at the time. He was also a member of the Kandahar Ski Club a popular Ski and Social club. He held their Gold K badge, awarded for his skill in skiing ahead of an avalanche when the rest of his party were all caught and buried by it.
