A WW1 veteran he served as Private 18208 in the Scots Guard, enlisting in Dec 1916. He was recorded as 5 foot 8 inches tall and did courses in musketry, bombing, gas and Lewis gun and was recorded as a first class shot.
The son of Walter and Jane, he married Olive Fuller in 1934.
