Born in Highgate, London to William and Ruby Bartholomew he married Betty Harding in 1941 in Watford.
He enlisted in the Royal Signals 7 Oct 1939 and was discharged 24 March 1946. His service record records he was 6 foot 1/2 inches tall with dark hair, brown eyes and a clear complexion.
