William was a gamekeeper at part of the Bowland Estate so he would have a very good knowledge of the area and Ian was the youngest son.

The Patrol's second Sergeant after Jimmy Baird was promoted to Lieutenant. He also served in WWI as a sniper in the Queen's own Cameron Highlanders. He left before stand down.
He never spoke of his time in Auxiliary Units.
