A WW1 veteran he served in the Royal Army Service Corps as 392814 from 6 Aug 1917 to 30 Nov 1919 in France. He was described as 4 foot 11 inches tall and on enlisting was described as being underweight. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
