Albert was the head gamekeeper at the Margam Estate, until the surviving Talbot/Fletcher family dispensed with the gamekeeping staff and moved away around 1939. Therefore he was probably retired at the point he was involved in the Margam Patrol. However, as head gamekeeper for 25 years, there is no doubt his local knowledge of every copse, ditch, stream, wood, and pathway was second to none.
