Known as Robbie he was promoted to Group 3 Commander and given the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, then Lieutenant on 1st June 1943, and Captain from 1st August 1944.
In 1939 he is an ARP Warden.
Robbie contracted polio as a young man in China. This left him with a weakened arm and nearly paralysed hip. He overcame these disabilities to become Captain and lead a very active life in farming after the war and travelled extensively all over the world. He married Ethel Mildred Williams in 1934.
