Biography

He is known to have been the Intelligence Officer for East Yorkshire, being promoted Acting Captain on 9th June 1942 and also noted in the Army List to be Specially Employed as was the case for most Intelligence Officers in Auxiliary Units. Other surviving papers confirm he was working as IO in the East Riding by early June. Auxiliers in the area recall him as a tough man and one who liked to resolve problems with his fists.

After leaving this role he was cashiered by General Court Martial 28th October 1944. It is not known why, but usually this was because of some serious misdemeanour like theft or misuse of military property.
